Public Holiday announced for 9th and 10th Muharram
The Government of Sindh has announced that July 5 (Saturday) and July 6 (Sunday), 2025, will be public holidays across the province for Ashura, which falls on the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 A.H.
An official notification was issued on July 1 by the Services, General Administration & Coordination Department. The holidays will apply to all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils that are under the Sindh government.
However, essential services will continue to operate. The announcement was made by Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, and the notification has been sent to all concerned departments for action.
Ashura is a significant religious day for Muslims, observed in memory of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), at the Battle of Karbala.
Strict security measures and religious processions are expected throughout Sindh on both days. Authorities have asked the public to observe the days with respect and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure peace and order.
