Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched the Power Smart App “Apna Meter Apni Reading”.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Power Division, this feature allows consumers to take a photo of their meter reading on a designated date and upload it to the app, which will then be used to generate their monthly electricity bill.
This system automates the billing process based on the readings provided by the users.
The aim of this system is to address issues such as overbilling, errors in readings, and delays. If consumers provide their readings on the specified day, the readings uploaded by the meter reader will not be prioritized, thereby increasing transparency and accuracy in billing.
Additionally, consumers will be able to monitor their bills and oversee the reading process, especially those who are eligible for government subsidies—for example, consumers using up to 200 units of electricity, whose bill is approximately 2,330 rupees. However, a slight increase of one unit can end the subsidy, causing the bill to rise up to 8,104 rupees.
According to the statement, if both the consumer and the meter reader upload readings, the lower reading will be given priority to ensure that eligible subsidy recipients continue to benefit from accurate and timely readings. It will be ensured that only the readings provided by the consumer are used.
This initiative by the Prime Minister is expected to enhance transparency in the electricity system and protect consumers’ rights.
Through features like “Apna Meter, Apni Reading,” the system aims to bring fairness and accountability to the electricity sector.
