Pakistan condemns US airstrikes on Iran
Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, an emergency meeting of Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) was held, during which Pakistan strongly condemned the Israeli and American attacks on Iran.
The high-level NSC meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, took place at the Prime Minister’s House. It focused on the current volatile regional situation and other critical national security matters.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers for defence, interior, and finance, along with the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Air Chief, and the Naval Chief.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to assess the evolving regional scenario following the ongoing tension between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
During the session, Field Marshal and Army Chief Asim Munir briefed the NSC in detail about his recent visit to the United States and his meeting with US President Donald Trump.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Field Marshal Asim Munir’s meeting with President Trump clearly reflects Pakistan’s strategic importance.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the Army Chief’s role amid the current sensitive global situation, reaffirming that Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.
Following the meeting, a statement was issued strongly condemning the aggression against Iran on behalf of Pakistan.
According to the statement, the National Security Committee (NSC) expressed deep concern over the targeting of Iran’s nuclear installations, emphasizing that such sites must be protected from any kind of attack in accordance with the guidelines of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The NSC stated that such actions not only violate international laws but also risk pushing the entire region towards a major crisis.
In its declaration, the NSC expressed full solidarity with Iran, reaffirming that Pakistan respects Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security, and will not support any irresponsible act.
The statement further warned that attacks on nuclear installations could destabilize the region and potentially spark a major conflict, with global repercussions.
The NSC urged the international community, the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and major world powers to immediately take notice of the situation and take effective measures to restrain the forces attacking Iran, in order to safeguard global peace and security.
