ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif led a high-level meeting to discuss the upgradation of Pakistan Railways and its extension to RekoDiq.

The session focused on modernizing the railway network to meet future cargo and transportation demands, including the upgradation of ML-1 and ML-3 routes.

The Prime Minister issued a directive to ensure that RekoDiq is connected to the railway network by 2028, aiming to boost regional development and connectivity.

He also emphasized the importance of exploring innovative financing options, instructing the formation of an inter-ministerial committee tasked with presenting comprehensive proposals to fund the railway upgrades and expansion.

Addressing the strategic importance of Pakistan Railways, the Prime Minister highlighted its role as the backbone of the country’s economy and communication system.

He underscored that the railway provides a cost-effective, fast, and environmentally friendly transportation alternative.

Connecting RekoDiq to the railway network is expected to significantly benefit Balochistan’s mining and mineral sectors, fostering economic growth and creating numerous employment opportunities for local communities.

The meeting was attended by key government figures and other senior officials.
