Julian Fellowes, the creator and writer of The Gilded Age, has nothing but reverence for HBO’s Casey Bloys.
According to Deadline, the fourth season of The Gilded Age premiered at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, where he showed gratitude to the CEO of HBO for believing in the series from the get-go.
Before the screening, Fellowes voiced his thoughts, saying, “I have a special place in my heart for Casey Bloys, our protector, our gladiator, our defender from very, very early days.”
“Anyone who enjoys the show owes him a great deal. I certainly do, and I say that with both pride and happiness,” he added.
For those unaware, NBC first ordered the series as Fellowes’ vision amazed broadcast television, but due to its limits, Universal TV offered the series to other networks, and it landed on HBO after facing tough competition from other streaming platforms.
The 77-year-old English actor, novelist, writer, producer, film director, and Conservative peer also sang praises of NBCU’s Pearlena Igbokwe as “one of the first to recognize” the specialness of the series.
He stated that The Gilded Age has always inspired him, as it is a “very interesting period of American history.”
The creator of Downton Abbey explained, “I think it was the beginning of modern America, and it was the moment that America decided they didn’t want to copy Europe and have five generations before anyone could be invited for dinner and all that kind of thing.”
“Whatever one says about the so-called robber barons, the fact is, within a few years, the century would begin what we would know of as the American century. And in both world wars, the voice of America was the loudest at the peace table, because America had arrived, and it was the big, giant new power of the world,” Julian Fellowes concluded.
It is pertinent to mention that The Gilded Age is set to release its fourth season on Sunday, November 1, 2026, on HBO. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
