Zendaya has landed her next major film role, joining forces with filmmaker Alex Garland for a new, untitled science-fiction movie produced by A24. The project is expected to begin filming in 2027, although details about its plot, additional cast members and release date remain under wraps.
The announcement marks another collaboration between Zendaya and A24, following her roles in the HBO drama Euphoria and the romantic thriller The Drama, in which she starred alongside Robert Pattinson. The actress has continued to expand her filmography across blockbuster franchises and independent productions, establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s most prominent stars.
Garland will write and direct the upcoming project, reuniting with A24 after working with the studio on films including Ex Machina, Men, Civil War and Warfare. His work frequently explores technology, human behaviour and the consequences of scientific or political upheaval, although the subject of his new film with Zendaya has not been revealed.
The new project will also mark Zendaya’s return to science fiction following her portrayal of Chani in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films. She is set to reprise the role in Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 18, 2026.
Zendaya has had a particularly busy year, with appearances in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, alongside her work on the final season of Euphoria. Her latest casting adds another high-profile project to an already packed schedule.

The filmmaker has also been associated with the future of the 28 Years Later franchise. Director Danny Boyle recently said that a third film’s script, written by Garland, was on hold while Garland worked on other projects.
