DC Studios has released a new trailer for Clayface, the upcoming horror feature directed by James Watkins, with Tom Rhys Harries starring as the iconic DC character.
The film is written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini and takes a darker approach to the comic-book material, trading conventional superhero action for disturbing body horror.
The story follows a rising actor who turns to a mysterious substance in a desperate attempt to preserve his relevance, setting the stage for a transformation centred on fame, identity and physical change.
With an estimated $40 million budget, Clayface is positioned as a relatively modest DC Studios production.
The film’s R rating also signals a move towards more adult-oriented horror, while its marketing has focused heavily on unsettling imagery and atmospheric tension.
However, questions remain over how effectively the film will balance its grotesque moments with the emotional depth of its tragic-villain origin story.
