Tom Cruise beams with joy as Kate Middleton, Prince William attend his film premiere: ‘Tom did it again’
Prince William and Kate Middleton stepped out together for a rare red carpet appearance Tuesday, joining Tom Cruise at the London premiere of his upcoming film, Digger.
The event, held at the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square, saw Princess Kate turn heads in a plum-coloured Jenny Packham gown with a plunging neckline and a flowing skirt.
David Beckham and Riz Ahmed were also in attendance among other stars.
Cruise appeared visibly delighted to see the couple again, particularly Princess Kate, fueling comparisons to their last red carpet encounter.
Back at the 2022 Top Gun: Maverick premiere, Cruise offered Kate his hand while helping her up a staircase, a moment that quickly went viral online, with many joking that he seemed a little too eager, even watching as Kate discreetly switched her clutch to the opposite hand to avoid a repeat gesture on the next staircase.
The callback wasn’t lost on fans this time around. Under a video of the reunion shared by the royal couple’s own account, one commenter quipped, “Tom did it again,” reviving the years-old joke about Cruise’s apparent fondness for the princess.
Another also jokingly wrote, “Tom Cruise has a crush on Princess Catherine he always takes her hand, it’s lovely.”
A third person also praised the royal couple, saying, “Class act couple as always. HRH Prince and Princess of Wales.”
The outing marked the couple’s first movie premiere together in more than four years, since they last joined Cruise for the UK premiere of Top Gun: Maverick back in 2022.
The appearance comes during a particularly eventful stretch for the royal family. Earlier the same day, Charles Spencer’s new memoir about his sister, Princess Diana, was released, after a rollout that sparked a rare public statement from Buckingham Palace addressing one of Spencer’s claims about King Charles.
The premiere also comes around the return of Prince Harry to the UK with his family. Neither brother has spoken publicly about their relationship since Prince Harry’s return, and both declined to comment on Spencer’s book during separate public appearances in London this week.
Tuesday’s event marked the 73rd Royal Film Performance, held annually in support of the UK’s Film and TV Charity. The Prince and Princess of Wales met with cast and crew members, including Cruise and director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, after being welcomed by charity representatives.
Earlier in the day, William also visited ActOne, a community cinema in west London.
