Ella Langley has made Billboard history as Choosin’ Texas becomes the longest-running No. 1 song in the history of the Hot 100, surpassing a record previously held by Mariah Carey.
The country star’s hit has reached its 23rd week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, overtaking Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You, which previously held the record with 22 weeks at the top.
Released in October 2025 as the lead single from Langley’s album Dandelion, Choosin’ Texas initially reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 in February 2026. It has remained at the top ever since, turning the track into one of the defining commercial hits of the year.
The song’s record-breaking run follows an earlier milestone in September, when it tied Carey’s 22-week record. Langley has now moved ahead of Carey to claim the all-time record for the most weeks spent at No. 1 on the US singles chart.
Choosin’ Texas has also accumulated significant streaming numbers. According to Luminate data reported by the Associated Press, the track had generated 911 million on-demand streams in the US and 1.26 billion globally by mid-August.
The song was co-written by Langley, Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. Its story centres on heartbreak and romantic rejection, with Langley singing from the perspective of someone whose love interest chooses another woman.
The track’s unusual journey began with a story involving Lambert and a kangaroo. Langley previously explained that Lambert told the story during a writers’ retreat, where the incident inspired the group to develop the song around the idea of someone choosing another person.
Beyond its success in the US, Choosin’ Texas has also made an impact in the UK. The song reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in September, making Langley the first country artist in more than two decades to achieve the feat with a solo country single, according to Music Week.
With its 23rd week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, Langley’s Choosin’ Texas has now surpassed one of Mariah Carey’s most enduring chart achievements and entered the record books as the longest-running No. 1 song in US chart history.
