Frankie Muniz has opened up about a difficult period in his life following his split from wife Paige Price, describing the past six weeks as a “nightmare” and saying he has reached “rock bottom”.
The Malcolm in the Middle star shared an emotional message on Instagram on September 18, revealing that the recent weeks had left him feeling as though everything was happening at once.
“The last 6 weeks of my life have been a nightmare I’m praying to wake up from,” Muniz wrote. “Everything felt heavy, unclear, and like it was falling apart at the same time. I wouldn’t wish this season on anyone.”
Muniz said the experience had also forced him to spend more time reflecting on himself and the parts of his life that he wants to change. He described that self-reflection as an “unexpected gift”, saying he had been able to confront the areas that needed work rather than presenting a polished version of himself to the world.
The actor, 40, said he had recently read that sometimes “hitting rock bottom” can be the experience that forces people to make changes they have been putting off. He added that he hopes he will eventually look back on this period with gratitude because it helped him build a better life.
Muniz’s comments come around two months after he and Price announced that they were ending their marriage. The couple had been together for 10 years and share a five-year-old son, Mauz. Muniz has not directly said that his recent struggles were caused by the separation.
Despite describing the period as one of the lowest points in his life, Muniz said he sees it as the beginning of a rebuilding process rather than the end of his story.
“This isn’t the end of the story. It’s the part where I start doing the work,” he wrote, adding that he wants to treat the difficult period as “the foundation, not the finish line”.
