Trump tells Ukraine to stop targeting Russian diesel amid record US fuel prices

US President Donald Trump has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to stop attacking Russia’s diesel infrastructure, claiming the strikes are contributing to a global fuel shortage.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian refineries and other energy facilities with long-range drones, reducing the country’s refining capacity.

“Mr Zelensky has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia. Let him go after targets, but not diesel fuel, because he’s causing a shortage of diesel,” Trump said during a visit to Ireland on Sunday, according to CNN.

“This isn’t done by the Middle East. This is done by what’s happening with Russia and Ukraine,” he added.

Trump’s comments come as global energy prices rise amid the war involving the US, Iran and Israel and concerns over supplies moving through the Strait of Hormuz.

Oil prices reached $108 this week, while US diesel prices climbed above $6 a gallon Friday for the first time.
