MANILA: Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda has been unanimously re-elected for a second five-year term, saying the bank must respond more quickly to the changing needs of its member countries.
Kanda’s new five-year term will begin November 24, 2026. He was elected as the ADB’s 11th president on November 27, 2024, and formally assumed office on February 24, 2025.
Following his re-election, Kanda said the ADB must serve as an anchor of stability in the region, emphasizing that stability does not mean standing still.
He said the bank must act faster and respond more effectively to the needs and priorities of its member countries.
According to the report, the ADB provided a record $44 billion in assistance in 2025. More than $29 billion came from the bank’s own resources, while nearly $15 billion was provided through co-financing.
An amendment to the ADB Charter also increased the bank’s annual financial capacity by 50%, enabling it to provide more than $36 billion in annual assistance from its own resources.

Earlier, privatization Commission of Pakistan and the Asian Development Bank signed a Transaction Advisory Services Agreement, or TASA, to support the outsourcing of Islamabad International Airport.
Under the agreement, the Asian Development Bank will serve as the financial adviser for the transaction and provide technical, financial, legal, environmental and commercial advisory services. The support is intended to help structure and implement the outsourcing process in line with international best practices.
The agreement was signed by Asian Development Bank Pakistan Country Director Emma Fan and privatization Commission Director General Shahid Dayo on behalf of their respective organizations.
