Olivia Rodrigo, Stevie Nicks team up for duet of Fleetwood Mac classic at Daisy Chains Fields festival
Nicks told the crowd that Rodrigo reminded her of herself when she was younger and expressed admiration for the artist
Olivia Rodrigo had a major surprise in store for fans at her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival, bringing out Stevie Nicks for a special performance of a Fleetwood Mac classic.
During Rodrigo’s headlining set at the festival in Irvine, California, on Saturday, August 29, the two singers joined forces to perform Landslide, the Fleetwood Mac song originally released in 1975. The pair traded verses and performed together under the lights at the Great Park amphitheater, creating one of the night’s most memorable moments.
The collaboration was particularly meaningful for Rodrigo, who has previously spoken about the influence Nicks and Landslide have had on her. In a 2023 Rolling Stone interview, Rodrigo recalled watching Nicks perform the song in a packed stadium and thinking about what it would feel like to sing it herself when she reached Nicks’ age.
Nicks also had plenty of praise for the 23-year-old pop star after their performance. Speaking to the festival crowd, she said Rodrigo reminded her of herself when she was younger and expressed admiration for how she had managed to put the entire event together.
“She reminds me of me, when I was her age a hundred years ago,” Nicks told the audience, adding that she was “somewhat awestruck” by Rodrigo’s ability to pull off the festival with such grace.
The duet was one of several surprise collaborations during Rodrigo’s headlining set. Alanis Morissette joined her for Ironic, while Sarah McLachlan appeared for performances of Building a Mystery and Angel. Rodrigo and McLachlan dedicated Angel to the late Dolly Parton.
Daisy Chain Fields, which took place at the Great Park in Irvine, was created by Rodrigo as an all-women music festival inspired in part by the legacy of Lilith Fair. The lineup included Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, the Breeders, Garbage, Sarah McLachlan and Nicks.
The festival also had a charitable mission, with proceeds supporting organisations focused on women and girls. The event ultimately raised $20 million, including a $10 million donation match from philanthropist Melinda French Gates.
For Rodrigo, sharing the stage with Nicks on Landslide brought a long-standing musical admiration full circle, turning one of her biggest inspirations into a once-in-a-lifetime festival collaborator.
