In a latest update U.S. President Donald Trump is marking the conclusion of the United States’ 250th anniversary summer celebrations with a historic, high-speed IndyCar race through the streets of Washington, D.C.

The landmark Freedom 250 Grand Prix transforms parts of the nation’s capital into a temporary 1.7-mile, seven-turn professional racetrack.

Over the weekend, 25 drivers navigate 147 laps reaching speeds of up to 185 mph past iconic federal landmarks, including Pennsylvania Avenue and the National Archives.

To prepare the capital’s streets for speeds approaching 200 mph, workers welded down more than 200 manhole covers and sealed them with silicone caps, while erecting perimeter fencing to protect spectators and surrounding areas.

As reported President Trump is scheduled to kick off the final day of racing by taking a ceremonial lap around the track inside his presidential limousine, “The Beast,” before waving the green flag.

The race serves as the grand finale for a series of high-profile administration-backed events commemorating America’s semi quincentennial milestone, following previous spectacles like a white house lawn UFC event and massive holiday fireworks displays.

While thousands of spectators have lined the route for the unprecedented urban racing event, the grand prix has also drawn significant debate.

Preservationists and local cultural institutions such as the nearby National Gallery of Art conducted vibration studies to protect sensitive historic exhibits, while critics have raised questions regarding urban disruptions and the politicization of public spaces.

Security remains tight across the capital with strict screening protocols in place, and live broadcast coverage is being provided nationally via FOX Sports.
