ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir will travel to Tehran on Monday, Aug.24 for key meetings aimed at strengthening ties with Iran, as both countries seek closer cooperation on regional peace, security and matters of mutual interest.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced the visit, saying Munir’s trip would focus on improving cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.

Baghaei said the visit is part of Pakistan’s continuing efforts to support peace and security in the region. He added that Munir is expected to discuss issues of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen bilateral relations during his meetings in Tehran.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran remains under what he described as a state of war, facing serious economic, military and security challenges.

Speaking at a ceremony, Pezeshkian said Iran had remained firm despite tough U.S. sanctions and was working to deal with what he called an unequal war.

The Iranian president also accused the United States of trying to turn Iran into another Venezuela but said the effort had failed. Pezeshkian said Iran’s enemies wanted to destroy the country, but he insisted that Iran had remained standing despite the pressure.

He further said Iran had developed into a strong country capable of surprising the world because of its unity. The president expressed hope that the difficulties facing the Iranian people would be overcome soon.

Munir’s planned visit comes against the backdrop of those challenges, with bilateral cooperation and regional security. The trip is expected to provide an opportunity for Pakistan and Iran to discuss shared concerns and explore ways to further improve their relationship.
