Pakistan set for exciting ODI tri-series

LAHORE: Pakistan’s home cricket calendar could get an exciting boost this fall, with England and Sri Lanka set to join the hosts in a proposed ODI tri-series from Oct.18 to Nov. 1, according to sources.

The proposed competition would feature six league matches followed by a final, with Rawalpindi and Lahore expected to host the tournament.

The opening leg is proposed for Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with matches scheduled for Oct. 18, 20 and 22.

The action would then move to Lahore, where Gaddafi Stadium is expected to host the remaining league matches on Oct. 25, 27 and 29.

The final is proposed for Nov. 1 in Lahore.

The schedule has not yet been officially confirmed. Sources said the Pakistan Cricket Board and the cricket boards of England and Sri Lanka will consult before approving the final dates and venues.

Sri Lanka’s visit to Pakistan could extend beyond the ODI competition, with the team also expected to play two Tests and three T20 internationals.

Discussions are underway to determine the dates and venues for those matches. The complete itinerary is expected to be announced after approval from the concerned cricket boards.

The tri-series would give Pakistan an opportunity to assess its ODI combinations against England and Sri Lanka in familiar home conditions.

For the visiting teams, the competition would provide valuable match practice and a chance to evaluate players ahead of their upcoming international commitments.

The proposed schedule is now awaiting approval from the three cricket boards, after which the final itinerary, match timings and other details are expected to be released.
