LAHORE: In a strategic push to enhance T20I readiness ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly working to convert its scheduled bilateral series with Afghanistan into a three-nation series, with UAE likely to join as the third team and host.

Originally slated for three T20Is between Pakistan and Afghanistan in August, the series may now be staged as a tri-nation tournament, offering all participants a broader competitive platform in conditions comparable to those expected at the Asia Cup—widely anticipated to be held in the UAE.

The UAE, which recently defeated Bangladesh 2-1 in a home T20I series, is being seen as a rapidly improving side, and its inclusion would not only diversify the opposition for Pakistan and Afghanistan, but also provide valuable match practice in neutral conditions.

While official confirmation is pending, insiders suggest that the proposed change is on track, with fixtures, venues, and dates likely to be announced in coordination with Afghanistan and UAE boards. If confirmed, the tournament would inject vital momentum and competitive edge into Pakistan’s pre-Asia Cup preparations.
