Brooklyn Beckham has faced criticism online after appearing to use seawater to cook pasta in a TikTok video, with viewers questioning the unusual cooking method.
The 27-year-old shared footage of himself preparing a tomato pasta dish near the ocean. He began by carrying a large cooking pot into the water and filling it.
“Of course we get some pasta water,” Beckham says in the video before continuing with the recipe.
He then prepares tomatoes in a pan with oil, salt and his Cloud23 hot sauce before adding the pasta cooked in the collected seawater. Beckham later samples the finished dish alongside another chef, with both appearing pleased with the result.
Some viewers were less convinced by the method, raising concerns about using untreated seawater. One commenter wrote, “Pasta water with a hint of burnt boat fuel please sir.”
Others questioned whether the video was intended as ragebait, with one person asking, “Is this ragebait?” Another commented, “Isn’t the ocean water dirty?”
The cooking video also prompted jokes about Beckham’s culinary ambitions, including comments such as, “Is there no beginning to his talents?!” and “Tomorrow I’m making corn flakes.”
Beckham has previously faced criticism over his cooking videos. In 2023, viewers commented on footage of him frying chicken in a large quantity of avocado oil.
Speaking to Insider in October 2023, Beckham said, “To be honest, I’m used to the hate. It doesn’t really bother me.”
He added, “Cooking makes me happy. I have more important things to worry about than people saying a little bit of rubbish about me.”
