Jennifer Grey opened up about her parents reunion before mother’s death.
In a recent podcast of Waking Up with Rayan, on August 7, 2026 Jennifer revealed that her parents Jo Wilder and Joel Grey who had divorced years ago, shared an emotional moment by making peace before mother’s passing.
The Hollywood star shared a glimpse into her parents’ last conversation when Joel made a final bedside visit he said, “The day you said ‘I do’ was the first time I felt whole in my entire life,” as quoted by People Magazine from the exclusive podcast episode.
“We had our bumps, but what I’ve realized is that none of that even matters anymore. What matters is the love we share,” Joel added.
Furthermore, reflecting on the heartfelt confession her mother said, “All is forgiven. It feels free.”
Jennifer further highlighted the importance of accepting the reality especially when someone is facing a serious illness like cancer and expressing feeling openly and without any hesitation, “You have [a] choice in the matter with this diagnosis.”
Adding, “Everyone deserves a good exit—if we can stop being so terrified, clean up whatever there is to clean up, and just tell people what we want.”
The Dirty Dancing star also recalled an exercise she did before her mother’s passing which made her mother deeply touched, “I did an exercise where I wrote an email to my mom saying all the things that are great about me that I got from her—from our matching breasts and nail beds to ballet class and yummy lotions.”
“She called me crying because she was so moved,” the actress revealed.
“Why are we not celebrating people while they’re here? What a sad thing to have someone say this after you’re not in the room,” she added.
Moreover, On July 4, Jennifer shared an Instagram post in which she paid tribute to her late mother, as per the caption, “True to who she was, she chose grace over fear, understanding that leaving this world with dignity is an honor, not a tragedy.”
She further described her mother’s priorities and the life she chose when she was a “promising young actress on the New York stage.”
Noting, “If she’d chosen ambition over my brother and me, we never would have had the mother we had. Her passion found other outlets: She was a lifelong activist, fiercely attuned to right and wrong. And for years, many people discovered her extraordinary eye through Wilder Place, her store on Melrose.”
“She was brave and deep. I love you, Mom. Thank you for showing me how to do it all, even this, with grace,” the 66-year-old actress further wrote.
It is pertinent to mention that the Red Dawn star’s mother was diagnosed with lung cancer a week before she passed away in July 2026 at the age of 94.
