Morgan Freeman recently admitted that he is more interested in a paycheque than a script.
The New York Times interviewed the legendary American actor, producer, and narrator, published on Sunday, August 2, in which he clearly confessed to taking on a role that will pay a hefty amount even if the script does not do justice to his calibre.
Freeman said, “If somebody offers you a job, it’s very nice if they’re offering you also an exciting script, but in reality, two or three things come into play.”
He added, “What are they going to pay you? If they’re going to pay you enough, then you overlook some of the glitches in the script that happen to be there.”
“Sometimes you can mention things that are in the script that don’t quite work out for you and by and large, that gets worked out,” The Shawshank Redemption star quipped.
Freeman went on to state that he will give his seal of approval to other job offers as well, as he is set to release a blues album on Friday, August 7, 2026.
He explained, “I’m like Clint Eastwood on that: Don’t let the old man in. So, keep working. If you can get out of bed and don’t fall down when you do it, then you just count your blessings and keep moving. So, I’ll work as long as I can — as long as somebody says, ‘Do you want to do this part?’”
When he was asked to share his dream role that he has not yet played in his decades-long career in Hollywood, the Oscar-nominated star jokingly replied, “I’m pushing 90 now. So, the roles that I wished I had been able to play, Denzel Washington will play.”
It is pertinent to mention that Morgan Freeman will mark a major milestone, celebrating his 90th birthday in June 2027.
