Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique delivered a historic batting masterclass in the Caribbean, smashing an unbeaten 160 against the West Indies to end a 49-year wait for a Pakistani batter in Test cricket.
Shafique achieved the milestone during the third day of the second ICC World Test Championship match at Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad, guiding Pakistan into a strong position after the visitors bowled West Indies out for 344 in their first innings.
The right-handed batter displayed remarkable patience and control throughout his innings, combining defensive discipline with attacking stroke play. His unbeaten knock included 15 fours and three sixes, showcasing his ability to dominate the opposition while maintaining composure under pressure.
With his memorable innings, Shafique became the first Pakistani batter since Majid Khan in 1977 to score more than 150 runs in a Test match against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

Majid Khan had previously achieved the feat with a 167-run innings in Guyana during Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies in 1977.
Shafique is now only the fifth Pakistani batter to score 150 or more runs in a Caribbean Test against the West Indies. The exclusive list includes Hanif Mohammad (337), Wazir Mohammad (189), Majid Khan (167), and Saeed Ahmed (150).
Shafique’s unbeaten 160 not only strengthened Pakistan’s position in the ongoing Test but also added his name to a prestigious list of Pakistani batters who have produced memorable performances in challenging Caribbean conditions.
His innings marked a significant achievement for Pakistan cricket, ending a long wait for another top-order batter to reach the landmark against the West Indies on their home soil.
