Phoebe Bridgers seemingly disses ex Paul Mescal’s girlfriend Gracie Abrams in lyrics from upcoming album
Bridgers and Mescal dated for around two years before their reported split in 2022
Phoebe Bridgers has appeared to reference Gracie Abrams and her former partner Paul Mescal in lyrics from her upcoming third studio album, Lost Weekend.
According to a review by The Guardian, Bridgers appears to address Abrams on the track “The Governor’s Waltz”, singing, “She can pretend to be me // Since she took my place in my bed, on that stage.”
The 31-year-old singer is believed to be referring to Abrams, 26, who began dating Mescal in 2024. Bridgers and Mescal, 30, dated for around two years before their reported split in 2022.
The Guardian review also highlighted lyrics from the album’s title track that appear to address Bridgers’ previous relationship, with the singer stating, “I’m supposed to be married but I called it off.”
Much of Lost Weekend reportedly explores the death of Bridgers’ father and the end of her relationship with Mescal.
Fans have also drawn comparisons between Bridgers’ lyrics and Abrams’ 2024 album The Secret of Us. On “Normal Thing”, Abrams sings, “When did you slip through my fingers, did I ever have you? / Was I just a placeholder to fill the hole inside you? / … Nothing left to say ’cause you’re not over her, now, are you?”
Abrams also appears to reference Mescal’s past relationship in “Risk”, “Know you had a girl, but it didn’t work out / Know you bought a house, but you had to move out…”
Lost Weekend is scheduled for release on August 14.
