‘The Odyssey’ races toward billion-dollar club despite ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ threat
With no breaks, The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan is going at breakneck speed at the global box office.
Within just two weeks, the Greek epic has raked in $700 million and on track to become another billion-dollar movie for the celebrated director.
To break down the jaw-dropping figure, Variety reported, the film drew $320.5 million from the domestic market, while overseas, it has earned $407.4 million, bringing the total to $727.9 million.
The current global haul makes The Odyssey the fourth highest-grossing film of 2026, only behind Toy Story 5, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Michael, and they all, by the way, have hit the $1 billion mark.
And The Odyssey has not even been released in China yet, the world’s second-largest movie market, where it will open on Aug 14.
Nolan’s mythic spectacle is so dominating at the box office that it is expected to gross up to $60 million in its third weekend despite Marvel at the time releasing its tentpole Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The Odyssey, which was made on a $250 million budget, is set to become the largest hit of the filmmaker’s career, which was previously held by The Dark Knight Rises.
