Lego unveils Gustav Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’ as its largest Art Masterpiece set

The new set recreates Klimt’s artwork using 4000 Lego pieces, making it the biggest model in the Art Masterpiece range

Lego has unveiled a new Art Masterpiece set inspired by Gustav Klimt’s iconic painting The Kiss, marking the largest release in its adult-focused art collection to date.

The new set recreates Klimt’s celebrated artwork using 4,000 Lego pieces, making it the biggest model in the Art Masterpiece range. It is also the collection’s most expensive release so far, priced at $299.99.

Originally painted between 1907 and 1908, The Kiss is one of the best-known works of Austrian Symbolist artist Gustav Klimt.

The oil-on-canvas painting incorporates gold leaf, silver and platinum, depicting a couple embracing while wearing ornate robes influenced by the Art Nouveau movement.

Lego’s version recreates the artwork with standard bricks arranged to produce a three-dimensional effect, using specially coloured elements to capture the painting’s distinctive gold detailing and decorative patterns.

The model was developed in collaboration with the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, where the original painting is permanently displayed.

As part of the launch, Lego will release a podcast featuring the set’s designer alongside Belvedere Museum curator Stephanie Auer. The podcast will be available from August 1 on Lego.com, Spotify and YouTube.

The completed model measures 60cm high, 54cm wide and 4cm deep. Like other sets in the Art Masterpiece collection, it includes a built-in wall mount, allowing it to be displayed as artwork.

The Lego Art set, numbered #31221, will be available to Lego Insiders from August 1 through early access, before its wider release on August 4 via Lego stores and the company’s official website.

The latest addition expands Lego’s growing Art Masterpiece collection, which already includes brick-built versions of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers, Claude Monet’s Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies and Keith Haring’s Dancing Figures.
