Off Campus star Mika Abdalla and actor Jake Short have ended their engagement after several years together.
A representative for Abdalla confirmed the split in a statement to the Us Weekly, saying, “Due to recent interest in Mika’s personal life it would feel remiss to not address that her and Jake are no longer together. They continue to support each other and remain on friendly terms, and kindly ask for privacy and respect.”
Abdalla and Short first met while working on the 2021 film Sex Appeal and later began dating. Their engagement was confirmed earlier this year through social media, four years after they first met.
News of the separation comes as Abdalla’s profile continues to rise following the success of Prime Video’s Off Campus.
The actress portrays Allie in the television adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s bestselling book series, with the upcoming second season expected to focus on the romance between Allie and Dean, played by Stephen Kalyn.
Speaking to Us Weekly in May, Abdalla discussed the future of the series and her excitement about exploring the next stage of her character’s story.
“Even though we do tease Dean and Allie a lot earlier than people expect, you are still left wanting a lot more,” she said. “And that’s something I’m really excited about. You just want to see more.”
Looking ahead to season 2, Abdalla said she is eager to delve further into the emotional depth of the characters.
“When it is time for our season, I’m excited to dig emotionally into that a little bit more,” she said.
Neither Abdalla nor Short has publicly commented further on the end of their engagement.
