Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has gripped the nation, and an overload of information about her flooded the media.

Yet, there are, it seems, little-known aspects about her life.

For one, before she became anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mum, Nancy was at the Kentucky Kernel, making headlines.

It is the student newspaper at the University of Kentucky.

She worked there in 1963 and covered Greek life on campus.

Nancy Guthrie update: Spotlight on Savannah Guthries mom past newsroom life

Jack Guthrie, a former colleague of Nancy and the ex-editor, recently recalled time with her.

“I was editor in 62-63, and Nancy was my society editor,” Jack said.

He continued, “She basically covered Greek life, and we had daily staff. Each day of the paper, it had a different staff.”

For Jack, the news of Nancy’s disappearance has been devastating.

“You want to break because you hear these things and you can’t believe what is going on,” he said.

“It’s very sad and is a very tragic thing for an extremely nice person,” Jack recalled.

However, the former editor did add that Nancy’s daughter Savannah’s breakout success in media was particularly a proud moment.

“Savannah certainly has become so well known; it just gave me an insight into her mother,” Jack noted.

Nancy has been missing for over 100 days, and police investigations so far have not produced a suspect.
