An investiture ceremony was held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to confer military awards on officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army in recognition of exceptional gallantry in operations and distinguished services rendered to the nation, the military’s media wing said on Thursday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir attended as the chief guest and conferred awards on the families of martyrs, as well as on serving officers and soldiers.

ISPR said the decorations included 50 Sitara-i-Imtiaz and 12 Tamgha-i-Basalat. Medals awarded posthumously were received with honour by the families of martyrs.

Paying tribute to the fallen and the wounded in service, Field Marshal Munir said, “Shuhada and Ghazis remain the enduring pride of the nation. Their honour and sacrifice are a sacred trust for every Pakistani. Peace and security of our motherland are owed to their supreme sacrifices and unwavering devotion to duty.”

He also expressed “profound admiration for the resilience, dignity and steadfastness demonstrated by the families of Shuhada,” acknowledging their “unparalleled sacrifices and unwavering commitment to the homeland.”

Commending the operational preparedness and resolve of the Pakistan Army and Law Enforcement Agencies, Field Marshal Munir lauded their continued efforts against terrorism and reaffirmed that “the fight against terrorism will continue with full national resolve until enduring peace and stability are achieved across the country,” ISPR added.

Last week, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred 47 military awards upon distinguished officers and soldiers to recognise their exceptional bravery, leadership and meritorious services rendered for the defence of the country.

Three personnel, including one officer and two jawans who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, were posthumously awarded Sitara-i-Basalat for acts of gallantry and sacrifice.

The president also conferred Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) upon 44 senior officers of the armed forces. The awards recognised their outstanding leadership and meritorious services.
