US President Donald Trump said the conflict with Iran could end “very quickly” as pressure grows in Congress over US military involvement in the region.
Speaking at a White House event attended by lawmakers, Trump said Washington was moving rapidly toward ending the conflict and preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
“They want to make a deal so badly; they’re tired of this,” Trump said.
The US president added that “they [Iran] have nuclear on their mind, and we’re not going to let them have a nuclear weapon”.
“We’ve done a hell of a good job. And we’re, I think, we’re going to be finished with that very quickly, and they won’t have a nuclear weapon, and hopefully, we’re going to get it done in a very nice manner,” he said.
Trump’s comments came as the Republican-controlled Senate voted on Tuesday to advance a War Powers Resolution aimed at limiting US military action against Iran unless Congress gives explicit approval.
The move reflects growing debate in Washington over presidential authority to engage in military operations without formal congressional authorisation.
