Peter Jackson is not directing the new Lord of the Rings films; however, he is working on Tintin.
A bombshell he dropped at Cannes, the noted filmmaker says he is writing the long-awaited sequel of Adventures of Tintin.
“I’ve been working with Fran [Walsh, Jackson’s partner] on another Tintin script, I was writing it in the hotel room here,” he says.
As the screenplay is in work, Jackson says he will also direct the movie based on the well-known detective.
“It’s an active real thing, and I’m getting back into the Tintin world, and I actually love it.”
Then, there is a guilt factor, too.
Jackson and Steven Spielberg made a pact over a decade ago: the latter would direct the first Tintin movie, and the former would direct the second.
The Jaws director honoured his commitment; however, the mastermind behind The Lord of the Rings was unable to fulfill his.
“The deal was that Steven directs one and I direct another,” he says.
“Steven did his film, and then for 15 years [later] I haven’t made mine. I feel very awkward about that.”
Jackson announcement about Tintin comes as he received an honourary Palme d’Or at Cannes.
