Iran urges regional states to end reliance on US security: Esmaeil Baqaei

Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has called on countries across West Asia to end their reliance on the United States for security, warning that Washington’s military presence has intensified regional instability rather than ensuring peace.

Speaking amid continuing geopolitical tensions, Baqaei said durable stability can only be achieved through stronger regional cooperation, mutual trust, and a security framework shaped by the countries of the region themselves.

In a strongly worded statement, Baqaei said sustainable peace in the region can only be achieved through cooperation among regional states rather than dependence on outside powers.

He argued that American military deployments and bases in West Asia have never served as a guarantee of peace, but have instead heightened insecurity and exposed host countries to greater strategic risks.

The Iranian spokesperson said countries hosting American military facilities have repeatedly faced dangerous situations, which, according to Tehran, demonstrates that this security model has not served the long-term interests of the region.

He stressed that lasting stability will require stronger regional coordination, mutual trust-building, and reduced external interference.
Baqaei also noted that Iran remains focused on ending conflict in the region, while acknowledging that continuing dialogue with the United States remains difficult amid deep mistrust.

He said Tehran has not forgotten the attacks carried out by Washington in June last year and on February 28, adding that these incidents continue to weigh heavily on relations between the two countries.

He concluded that durable peace in West Asia will only be possible when regional nations take greater ownership of their collective security architecture rather than seeking protection through external military dependence.
