TEHRAN: Iran has strongly rejected recent US attacks, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei terming the strikes as “aggression” and firmly dismissing Washington’s justification for the action.
In a statement posted on X, Baghaei challenged the US narrative, asserting that the attacks cannot be classified as self-defense under any circumstances.
‘Self-defense’ against what? Was there any ‘armed attack’ by Iran to justify ‘self defense’?
Definitely not!
So this was absolutely NOT ‘self-defense’ — it was an act of AGGRESSION against the nation of Iran. pic.twitter.com/iPemdStD71— Esmaeil Baqaei (@IRIMFA_SPOX) May 1, 2026
He referred to a document issued by the United States Department of State, which claimed that the strikes were conducted in collective defense of its ally Israel and in line with Washington’s right to self-defense.
Questioning this stance, Baghaei asked what exactly the US was defending against, stating that Iran had not carried out any armed attack that could justify such action.
He emphasized that the situation does not constitute self-defense but rather represents open aggression against Iran, adding that such actions are a violation of international laws and established global norms.
