US keeps pressure on Iran as Trump dismisses proposal

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal, stating that the blockade on Iran will remain in place until a comprehensive agreement on its nuclear program is reached.

Speaking on the issue, Trump said the siege would continue until Tehran agrees to terms that address Washington’s concerns regarding its nuclear ambitions.

He emphasized that the United States seeks a deal that ensures Iran abandons or significantly limits its nuclear program.

The president described the naval blockade as more effective than direct military strikes, claiming it has severely restricted Iran’s ability to export oil.

According to him, Iran is now pushing for an agreement that would lead to the lifting of the blockade.

Trump further asserted that the ongoing restrictions have worsened Iran’s economic conditions, adding that the pressure has significantly strained the country’s energy infrastructure, including oil storage facilities and pipelines.

However, he clarified that no orders have been issued to resume military strikes against Iran at this stage, signaling that diplomatic pressure remains the primary strategy.
