WhatsApp will no longer function on devices running Android versions 5.0, 5.1, and 6.0 or earlier.
Users of older Android smartphones may soon lose access to WhatsApp as Meta has announced the end of support for outdated operating systems.
The move aims to enhance user security, improve privacy protection, and ensure smoother app performance, according to the company.
As per reports, from September 8, 2026, WhatsApp will no longer function on devices running Android versions 5.0, 5.1, and 6.0 or earlier.
After the deadline, only devices operating on Android 6.0 and above will be able to use the messaging platform.
The decision is expected to impact millions of users worldwide who still rely on older smartphones for communication.
Users have been advised to back up their chat history and media before the deadline and transfer their data to newer devices to avoid permanent loss.
Meta is also focusing on introducing advanced features, including artificial intelligence-based tools, which require more modern hardware and updated software environments.
