Who is Łatwogang? Polish influencer raises $58m for cancer patients in record YouTube charity livestream

Patryk Garkowski, known online as Łatwogang, has led one of Europe’s largest online charity campaign

Polish influencer Patryk Garkowski, known online as Łatwogang, has led one of Europe’s largest online charity campaigns after raising more than 250 million zlotys ($58 million) through a record-breaking YouTube livestream.

The nine-day broadcast, aimed at supporting cancer patients, began with a modest target of 500,000 zlotys but quickly surpassed expectations, evolving into a nationwide and international fundraising effort.

At its peak, the stream became the most-watched live broadcast globally, with donations accelerating past key milestones before exceeding 250 million zlotys shortly after the scheduled end time.

Streaming continuously from a small apartment, Garkowski maintained engagement by looping a single track throughout the event.

The song, recorded by Polish rapper Bedoes with 11-year-old cancer patient Maja Mecan, served as the emotional centrepiece of the campaign. “There is no hidden agenda. All the money goes to the kids,” Garkowski said during the stream.

The fundraiser supported the Cancer Fighters foundation, which provides medical, psychological and financial assistance to cancer patients and their families. Donations came from a wide range of contributors, including public figures and corporations.

Footballer Robert Lewandowski donated one million zlotys, while tennis player Iga Świątek contributed 100,000 zlotys and auctioned Wimbledon tickets.

The livestream featured performances, celebrity appearances and viral moments, including a cameo from Chris Martin of Coldplay. Viewers also witnessed reconciliations between public figures and interactive segments with children undergoing treatment.

The event concluded at 21:37, a symbolic reference to the time of death of Pope John Paul II, reflecting the campaign’s cultural resonance in Poland.

Funds raised will be directed towards treatment, rehabilitation and ongoing care for patients supported by the foundation.
