Pakistan opens new Iran corridor for beef exports

The transit corridor between Pakistan and Iran has officially started as the first export shipment departed for Tashkent.

An inauguration ceremony was held at the TIR terminal in Karachi, marking the beginning of a new land trade route under the TIR system, which aims to provide a faster and more efficient option for regional trade.

According to Pakistan Customs, the corridor will help increase trade activities and reduce transportation time, making it an important step for improving regional business connections. The first shipment includes frozen meat, which is being transported in refrigerated trucks.

The convoy will cross into Iran through the Gabd-Reemdan border and continue its journey toward Central Asia. Officials said that procedures at border points have been simplified to ensure smooth operations, while TIR transit services are now active at Taftan, Reemdan, Sost, and Gwadar.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Director General Customs Tariq Rangoonwala. Authorities described the development as a major step forward for Pakistan’s transit trade system, highlighting the importance of the Gabd–Reemdan corridor in improving Gwadar’s connectivity and opening access to new markets in Central Asia.

Officials also noted growing cooperation between customs authorities, TIR operators, and logistics companies, as Pakistan works to strengthen trade through Karachi and Gwadar ports. Increased international container traffic has already been seen at Karachi Port in recent weeks.

The new corridor is expected to offer quicker and more reliable transport options for exporters and help position Pakistan as an important trade and logistics hub linking South Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
