
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a key meeting with US Vice President JD Vance in Islamabad, as high-level United States–Iran peace negotiations officially got underway in the capital placing Pakistan at the center of global diplomatic attention.
The development marks a significant moment in regional diplomacy, with Islamabad emerging as a crucial platform for dialogue aimed at reducing tensions and steering the region toward stability.
According to official sources, the high-level meeting was attended by senior US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Pakistan was represented by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
During the talks, both sides stressed the urgent need for constructive dialogue, restraint, and diplomatic cooperation to address fast-evolving regional challenges. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the spirit of engagement shown by all parties, describing it as an encouraging step toward long-term peace.
He reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to facilitating dialogue between relevant stakeholders and supporting every effort aimed at de-escalation and regional harmony.
Meanwhile, a high-level Iranian delegation led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf along with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also arrived in Islamabad to participate in the negotiations, further intensifying the diplomatic momentum in the capital.
The White House has also confirmed the engagement, underscoring the importance Washington attaches to Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role.
Earlier, the US delegation was warmly received at Nur Khan Airbase by senior Pakistani leadership, reflecting the high stakes and significance of the visit.
With global media and international stakeholders closely watching developments, Islamabad has transformed into the focal point of a potentially historic diplomatic process that could reshape regional stability.
