A US fighter jet has been shot down over Iran, with one crew member rescued and a search continuing for the second, according to Axios.
Sources told Axios that the two crew members of an F-15 aircraft ejected after it was hit by Iranian fire.
US special forces later located and rescued one crew member on Iranian territory. Efforts are ongoing to find the second, while Iranian authorities have also launched a search and are offering a reward to civilians.
In a separate incident, Iranian forces said they struck an A-10 Warthog attack aircraft. Sources confirmed the plane was hit, though the pilot was safely rescued.
Iran also reported hitting a US Blackhawk helicopter involved in the rescue mission. A US official confirmed the aircraft was struck and crew members were injured, but it remained operational and was used in the rescue.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Axios “the President has been briefed.”
The incident marks the first time during the current conflict that a US jet has been downed by enemy fire, raising questions about earlier claims of air superiority.
