Karachi Goes All Out for Last-Minute Eid Shopping

Stalls of glittering bangles, earrings, cosmetics, and colorful outfits lure crowds of all ages.

With only hours to go before Eid-ul-Fitr, Karachi’s markets are bursting at the seams as shoppers rush to complete their festive preparations.

Chand raat celebrations are in full swing across Pakistan, with commercial centers, shopping malls, and local markets staying open late into the night some even until 6 a.m. on Eid day.

Stitched garments, shoes, and artificial jewellery are flying off the shelves, while demand for unstitched fabric has slowed. Retailers are attracting customers with “loot sale” discounts of 20–30%, bright lights, and festive decorations.

Major shopping hubs are alive with excitement: cartoon-clad staff entertain children at large clothing and shoe stores, while temporary stalls selling cosmetics, bangles, earrings, embroidered outfits, and colorful dresses draw crowds of all ages.

Children add to the festive energy, picking out new clothes and shoes alongside their parents, as Karachi’s commercial streets transform into a vibrant, bustling hub of last-minute Eid shopping.

No Chand raat is complete without henna. Temporary mehndi stalls pop up across the city, especially in major markets, offering designs ranging from simple floral patterns to intricate Arabic and bridal styles.

Parlors are fully booked for Mehndi, so head to Karimabad or Meena Bazar to soak in Karachi’s vibrant traditional Mehndi culture.

Tonight, Karachi will feel different a mix of chaos and unity. Strangers will smile at each other and exchange warm wishes of Chand Mubarak.
