Netflix unveils ensemble for upcoming Scooby-Doo live-action drama

Netflix has unveiled the principal cast for its forthcoming live-action adaptation of Scooby-Doo, offering a contemporary interpretation of the long-standing franchise.

The series, commissioned directly nearly a year ago, is being developed by Warner Bros. Television, with Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serving as showrunners, and Greg Berlanti among the executive producers.

The newly announced cast includes Maxwell Jenkins as Fred, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma, and Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, alongside McKenna Grace, who has already been confirmed in the role of Daphne.

The narrative will centre on the origins of Mystery Incorporated, charting how its members first came together.

Described by Netflix as a “modern reimagining”, the series revisits the classic property that first premiered in 1969 and has since undergone numerous adaptations.

The storyline follows Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp, where they become entangled in a mysterious case involving a lost Great Dane puppy, believed to be linked to a supernatural incident.

Joined by the logical and scientifically minded Velma, as well as the enigmatic newcomer Fred, the group embarks on an investigation that gradually unfolds into a darker and more complex mystery.

The project is supported by an experienced production team, including Midnight Radio and Berlanti Productions, with Toby Haynes directing the pilot episode.
