
KARACHI: The mobile phone and internet services were suspended in Karachi and various cities across the country under security measures for the 9th of Muharram-ul-Haram.
The 9th of Muharram, observed to commemorate the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, is being marked with due solemnity and respect nationwide today.
In view of security concerns, mobile phone services have been suspended in several areas, with sensitive zones completely sealed off. In Karachi, mobile service disruptions have already begun, and internet connectivity in parts of the city is also being affected.
Authorities have implemented strict measures to ensure the safety of mourners and maintain law and order during the religious observances.
Meanwhile, internet services have also started to be affected in different areas of Karachi.
Communication efforts at the accident site in Lyari are facing serious challenges due to the suspension of mobile phone signals in the area.
Rescue and coordination teams are reportedly struggling to maintain contact, which is delaying operations and affecting timely response. The signal disruption comes as part of broader security measures in place for Muharram processions across the city.
It may be recalled that, a five -storey residential building was collapsed in Baghdadi area of Lyari, in which 6 families were living, so far 16 people have been killed in the accident.
