5,550 KG Mangoes Missing from Multan
A major agricultural theft occurred in Nawabpur, Multan, where roughly 5,550 kilograms (about 150 maunds) of mangoes were stolen from several orchards overnight between June 27 and 28.
The theft targeted four separate mango orchards, raising concerns over increasing security challenges faced by local farmers. Police officials estimate the stolen fruit’s value at over Rs 900,000.
In a quick response, residents succeeded in apprehending a suspect named Aqib Kalro, who was handed over to the authorities. During the investigation, DHA Police Station officers recovered a substantial quantity of mangoes from the scene.
However, controversy arose when the police lodged an FIR recording only 25 maunds of mangoes as stolen, omitting approximately 125 maunds believed to have been taken from three other complainants. This discrepancy has led to widespread outrage among orchard owners and local residents.
Critics allege that police officials, including the SHO of DHA Police Station, are exerting undue pressure on victims to resolve the issue privately, rather than pursuing formal legal action.
