
LAHORE: At least 21 people lost their lives and 57 others sustained injuries across Punjab due to heavy rains and strong winds from June 25 to June 29.
According to Rescue officials, on the last day of the spell alone, 8 fatalities and 27 injuries were reported as rain and windstorms wreaked havoc in various parts of the province.
The storm, with wind speeds reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour, particularly impacted Lahore and surrounding areas. Numerous trees and walls collapsed due to the forceful winds.
The severe weather also disrupted power supply as two 220 kV grid stations of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) were shut down, leaving several areas of Lahore without electricity.
Husband died on a family riding a motorcycle on Band Road in Lahore while his wife and son were injured. In Daroghawala area, the roof of a house collapsed, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. In a separate incident, one person was killed when a wall collapsed on Katar Bund Road.
Meanwhile, a 10 -year -old boy was killed when a wall collapsed in Khanpur village of Sheikhupura while one person was killed when a wall collapsed in Kot Abdul Malik. In Nowshera Virkan, one person lost his life after being struck by lightning, while in Nandipur village of Gujranwala, another individual died due to electrocution.
In Ferozwala, Kasur, Gujranwala, Nankana Sahib and Sheikhupura, 27 people were injured in other incidents, including walls and roofs.
