Tom Cruise lands new Guinness World Record after ‘MI8’ stunt

Tom Cruise has added another daring feat to his legacy, this time earning a Guinness World Record during the production of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
The award came after Cruise completed 16 parachute jumps with the canopy intentionally set on fire, all while filming a high-stakes plane sequence for what’s being promoted as his final mission as Ethan Hunt.
In a new behind-the-scenes video released by Paramount, viewers get a glimpse of the extreme preparation and execution behind the wild stunt.
Before one of the jumps, Cruise is heard detailing the dangerous setup, “If this is twisted while it’s burning, I’m going to be spinning and burnt. I have to kick out of the twist and then ignite in 10 seconds.”
He continued, “We’re going to be real smart. I’m not saying be risky. We don’t take risks, obviously.”
Though The Final Reckoning is being called Cruise’s last ride as the iconic agent, the actor stayed vague when asked about officially closing the chapter on the franchise.
While speaking in Cannes, he simply said, “I’d rather just people see it and enjoy and we’ve had an amazing time doing it and it’s been a lot of fun and I just want you all to enjoy it. Enjoy this and know everything is the culmination has come to this moment right now.”
The film debuted over Memorial Day weekend and has already grossed $360 million globally. It opened with a massive $200 million, setting a new benchmark as the biggest launch for the Mission: Impossible series.
“This weekend was one for the history books!” Cruise said, as audiences around the world continue to show up for the adrenaline-fueled farewell.
