Three dead, four injured in landmine blasts in Dera Bugti

DERA BUGTI:

At least three people were killed and four others seriously injured in two separate landmine explosions on Wednesday in the Sui area of Dera Bugti district in Balochistan.

The first explosion occurred around 7 am in Saghari village. A woman, her 8-year-old daughter, and a local resident, Ghulam Nabi, were killed instantly as they stepped outside their home. Eyewitnesses said the blast was so severe that the victims’ bodies were unrecognisable.

The second blast took place in the border area of Yaru, where two men, a woman, and her 10-year-old son sustained injuries. Levies personnel rushed to the site and transported the wounded to Dera Bugti Civil Hospital. Doctors later described the condition of two victims as critical.

Residents told Express News that no military activity had been taking place in the vicinity, suggesting the landmines had been planted deliberately to target farmers and civilians. “Landmines have become a daily threat in our area. We are afraid to even let our children leave home,” one local resident said.

Levies and Frontier Corps personnel cordoned off the blast sites and launched a search operation. Authorities confirmed that a team of experts had been called in to assess the nature of the explosives. District officials announced an inquiry into the incident. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blasts.
