Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has announced that the seventh spell of monsoon rains is expected to begin across Punjab from August 13.
This new wave of rainfall is predicted to bring widespread showers and potential flooding in various districts, particularly those located near major rivers.
According to the PDMA, the upcoming rains may lead to rising water levels in the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers. As a result, a flood advisory has been issued, urging local authorities and residents to remain on high alert.
While the rainfall is expected to provide much-needed relief from the intense summer heat, it also poses risks of flash floods and river overflows. The PDMA has instructed district administrations and emergency services to stay vigilant and prepared for any potential emergencies.
DG PDMA Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, has advised the evacuation of people and livestock from low-lying and riverine areas as a precautionary measure. He also stressed that swimming or bathing in rivers, canals, streams, and ponds is strictly prohibited during this period to prevent accidents.
Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and report any emergencies to the PDMA helpline at 1129.
