Savitri Jindal, India’s richest woman, sees staggering $9.6 billion increase in wealth; beats Ambani & Adani – Times of India


India’s richest woman, Savitri Jindal, has witnessed a staggering increase in her wealth by $9.6 billion in 2023. This surpasses even the wealth growth of the Ambani and Birla families, according to data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries (RIL), remains the richest Indian with a total wealth of $92.3 billion.His fortune increased by approximately $5 billion in 2023, which is nearly half of what Jindal gained, according to an ET report.
At the age of 73, Savitri Jindal is now the fifth richest Indian and the wealthiest woman in the sub-continent, with a net worth of $25.3 billion. She controls a conglomerate that operates listed companies such as JSW Steel, Jindal Steel & Power, JSW Energy, Jindal Saw, Jindal Stainless, and investment company JSW Holdings.
The OP Jindal Group, which she owns, also holds an 83% stake in JSW Infrastructure, a port operator that went public in October this year. The Jindal family is now considering the listing of JSW Cement in 2024.Following Jindal, Shiv Nadar of HCL Tech is the second-highest gainer on the list, with his net worth soaring by approximately $8 billion to reach $32.6 billion. The IT major, of which the promoters own around 61% stake, has seen its shares soar by 45% in 2023.
Realty tycoon KP Singh of DLF added another $7 billion to his wealth, bringing his total net worth to $15.4 billion. The real estate boom in India has contributed to an 83% surge in DLF stock.
Kumar Mangalam Birla and Shapoor Mistry both witnessed a $6.3 billion increase in their wealth during the year.
Mukesh Ambani’s wealth rose by an additional $5.2 billion, while Sun Pharma MD Dilip Shanghvi saw his wealth go up by $4.7 billion. Other notable gainers on the list include Ravi Jaipuria, MP Lodha, and Sunil Mittal.

In contrast, billionaire Gautam Adani faced a decline in his fortunes in 2023. Despite some recovery in the share prices of his 10 listed group entities, Adani experienced a net drop of $35.4 billion in his net worth. However, he remains the second richest Indian with an estimated net worth of $85.1 billion, according to Bloomberg.
Mukesh Ambani is not only the wealthiest individual in India but also in Asia, ranking 13th on the global list with a net worth of $92.3 billion. Adani, on the other hand, is the second richest Indian and is positioned at No. 15 on the global list. Prior to the Hindenburg controversy earlier this year, Adani held the title of Asia’s richest and was ranked No. 3 in the world.
The list of India’s richest billionaires in 2023 also includes Azim Premji of Wipro, steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, investor and DMart founder Radhakishan Damani, KM Birla, and vaccine mogul Cyrus Poonawalla.
