Karachi sees over 26,500 crime incidents in five months

KARACHI: The residents of Karachi have remained at the mercy of robbers, extortionists, and armed criminals during the first five months of the current year, as crime continues to surge across the city.

According to official records, more than 26,500 criminal incidents have been reported in Karachi between January and May 2025.

During the same period, 245 people lost their lives in various violent incidents, including targeted killings, street crimes, and armed attacks.

Tragically, 48 individuals were shot dead by criminals during incidents of robbery when they offered resistance.

The alarming statistics have raised serious concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in the city.

According to police records motorcycle theft and snatching remain a major concern, with over 17,994 incidents reported.

As per the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) more than 684 cases of cars and other vehicles being snatched or stolen. Additionally, citizens reported over 6,489 instances of mobile phones being snatched.

The Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) further said 11 kidnapping for ransom cases were also reported during the five month. The city also saw 32 reported incidents of extortion in the same period highlighting the pervasive nature of organized crime.
