During the 34th season of DWTS, Carter was remembered with a heartfelt tribute among many artists who have passed away. The tribute segment also highlighted former judge Len Goodman.

During the recording of 2006 reality series House of Carters, his brother and sisters of noticed substance use and decided to get help from an expert.
Carter struggled with marijuana, Xanax, and other substances from a young age. His twin sister Angel noted that seeking help at that time contributed to ongoing support for the family members who participated.
Previously, Carter opened up about his alcohol-addled past on a new Oprah: Where Are They Now?
“I started getting really heavy into drinking and was telling people, ‘I’m on a real bad path right now. I need help,'” Carter recalled.
His fall began when his parents, Robert and Jane, divorced in 2003. The depression that came along with the split drove Carter to excessive partying.
It was during this time that Dancing With the Stars came along, giving him hope for a comeback to pop music, however it also didn’t worked out for him quite well.
